"I buy my own diamonds, and I buy my own rings"

Many people may think that the comic above is quite funny, but in reality it's a huge problem within our society. Women are objectified as being house wives that cook, clean, and take care of the kids. They are suppose to be able to handle all of these things because they are women, they aren't allowed to have any downtime or to make any errors. If something goes wrong women are at fault, men do not want to take the blame because it takes away from their manhood. However if women are perceived as these super hero figures how are they expected to also maintain their looks, and be seen as sexy? If there is no downtime to relax or go out how do men or anyone expect them to pamper themselves and be everything they could dream of?

Women nowadays are taking more risks, and proving to society that it is possible for women to succeed outside the kitchen. Women are pursuing careers in fields such as accounting, construction, pre-med, media, education etc. Things that have made this process easier for women are the help of other women and their advice.Even though women in general are very competitive by nature, who else knows women better than actual women? There are many blogs out there that allow any individual to speak out about anything that could come to mind. It's a way to vent and reach out to others who may be going through the same issues. A similar feature on the internet is a website where you could create your own magazine.

This one particular women magazine is about women empowerment and how the creator wants to "enrich and change women's lives". She discusses topics such as domestic abuse, forgiveness, women evolving throughout the years, and how to feel good. I also came across this magazine called "empowering women" which helps women succeed financially, professionally, and with their personal lives. On the cover of every magazine they have a bunch of everyday women not your typical models, but these women give off an image as real. They look as if they would be your mother, grandmother, or you in a few years they are very much relatable which could make women want to read this particular magazine.

Media in particular is a hard business for women and according to womens media center "the truly disturbing numbers are the percentages of women working for the 94 percent of companies owned and run by men: women comprise only 10 percent of general managers, only 15 percent of programmers, and only 15 percent of the on-air talent. Five of the top nine radio groups do not list any women at all in their executive suites." This is quite disturbing because even as kids we are raised that girls and boys are suppose to act a certain way and be opposites of one another. Today while babysitting the boys decided to create a boys only club, so the little girl decided to make a girls only fort because she was unwelcomed in the boys club. This is how society works as well, if women are not welcomed to work aside men in certain fields, they create their own business, where they become their own leaders. They have to work from nothing to get to the top, and with these magazines guiding them along the way in how to be successful it makes the obstacles less difficult to face alone.

According to now.org "The media play a central role in informing the public about political, legal, health and other matters, they have the power to affect each and every issue that feminists care about. For instance, we cannot advocate effectively for pay equity, reproductive rights or violence prevention if the media ignore these issues or present them from a limited viewpoint that favors the status quo...How unequal is the media? Women and people of color are sorely lacking as media owners and high-level executives; they are under-represented in decision-making roles". This is completely true and since women and miniorities are unable to have a huge part of the media and what is being display they have to take it to smaller companies to have their voice be heard. Even then it only reaches a little amount of people, but every person should count. This may be a long process but eventually the word will spread, women and miniorities voices will be heard throughout the world either by protesting, creating their own business, taking a stand against big cooporations, having their on youtube accounts, etc. Until then we just have to keep fighting and never give up.
